How to Create a Site Map Using Fireworks

Mar 29, 2012 10:07 PM

Navigation buttons for music genres and contact information.

  1. Open Fireworks and start a new canvas of size 600 x 600 pixels.
  2. Using the shape tool, create shapes of your choice to represent each webpage in your website. A music website example is shown above. Note that you can have any combination of shapes and that each shape represents a webpage in the website.
  3. Color the shapes according to your house style and taste.
  4. Ensure that the shapes are uniform in size and position using the Fireworks tools available.
  5. Group the shapes, as shown by your teacher.
  6. Use the hotspot tool in Fireworks to affix each shape to a specific URL. Annotate (explain) the method.
  7. Save the file with a suitable name, e.g. hotspots.
  8. Export the file as an “html page with images” saving the html file with the name “sitemap.html” and within the same folder as your other web pages.
  9. Link this page to each of the other web pages using a text hyperlink at the bottom of each page.
  10. If you are creating this for a school project, then annotate (explain) your work.
